US Armed Forces have killed Abu Yusif, a leader of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS), in a precision airstrike in Syria, as confirmed by US Central Command (Centcom).
The strike took place in the Dayr az Zawr Province, Syria, where another ISIS operative was also killed. The operation occurred in an area previously controlled by Syrian regime and Russian forces, according to US officials.
In related news, while ISIS remains active, the mission to defeat the group is nearing its end. The UK’s Operation Shader, aimed at dismantling ISIS in Iraq and Syria, will conclude soon. The RAF Reaper drone recently carried out a successful strike against an ISIS fighter in the Syrian desert.
General Michael Erik Kurilla, Centcom Commander, emphasized: “The United States, in collaboration with regional allies and partners, will not allow ISIS to exploit the current situation in Syria and rebuild.”
He added, “ISIS intends to free over 8,000 operatives held in Syrian facilities. We will continue to target their leaders and operatives, including those attempting to launch operations outside of Syria.”
