Resident Evil 9 Requiem Revealed

Resident Evil 9 Requiem was officially revealed at Summer Game Fest 2025, and it’s already shaking up expectations. Capcom’s latest survival horror entry brings a new protagonist, a return to Raccoon City’s ruins, and a darker, more cinematic tone.

Set to launch on February 27, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, Resident Evil 9 Requiem promises to redefine the franchise with open-ended exploration and chilling psychological themes.

A New Hero Rises: Who Is Grace Ashcroft?

The cinematic trailer introduced Grace Ashcroft, an FBI technical analyst investigating a chain of bizarre deaths. Grace is seemingly forced to return to the same location where her mother was killed—now a haunted ruin of Raccoon City.

In a chilling twist, we hear a mysterious figure say, “Now I know you’re the one I’ve been searching for… the chosen one.” Is Grace that person? Will she be the sole playable character? Capcom hasn’t confirmed this yet.

Cinematic Survival: More Than Just Horror

Host Geoff Keighley described Resident Evil 9 Requiem as a “bold shift in tone and gameplay.” While classic survival horror remains at its core, the game leans heavily into cinematic action with high-stakes sequences and atmospheric storytelling.

Open-world design elements hint at more player freedom than ever before. And the brief glimpse of the ruined Raccoon City Police Department sets the tone for a haunting return to familiar territory.

Will Series Icons Return? What About Leon?

So far, Capcom has remained tight-lipped. While the trailer focuses on Grace, fans are wondering: will legacy characters like Leon S. Kennedy return? Could we get multiple playable characters?

Capcom’s official site only mentions “technological advancements” and “rich, immersive storytelling with deep character development.” It’s safe to say surprises await.

Official Description from Capcom

“A requiem for the dead. A nightmare for the living. Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth entry in the iconic series. Prepare to escape death in a chilling new experience that will stop your heart and chill your bones.”

Why Resident Evil 9 Requiem Could Be a Game-Changer

From the shift in protagonist to the hybrid gameplay style, Resident Evil 9 Requiem feels like more than a sequel. It’s a reinvention. With a mix of survival horror, cinematic storytelling, and open exploration, it could become a modern classic in the franchise.
