Iran-US Nuclear Talks Show Progress After Muscat Meeting

Iran has confirmed that indirect talks with the United States over its nuclear program took place in Oman. More discussions are set for next week. Both nations described the talks as “constructive,” offering hope for a possible breakthrough amid ongoing tensions.

Iran and US Begin New Nuclear Talks in Oman

Diplomatic channels between Iran and the United States have reopened — this time indirectly. According to Iran’s Foreign Ministry, the two sides met in Muscat, Oman. However, they sat in separate rooms. Omani officials acted as mediators, shuttling messages between the delegations.

The goal? Restart stalled nuclear negotiations and ease mounting tensions in the region.

A Carefully Managed Exchange

At the end of the meeting, Iranian and US officials reportedly exchanged brief words in the presence of Oman’s foreign minister. Iranian diplomat Abbas Araghchi confirmed this. He called the environment “constructive” and based on mutual respect.

Likewise, the White House released a statement calling the talks “very positive and constructive.” It noted that direct communication by U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff marked a step forward.

Oman: The Middle East’s Neutral Ground

Oman continues to play a crucial role in regional diplomacy. After the meeting, Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi posted on X (formerly Twitter). He thanked both delegations for working toward “global peace, security and stability.”

He also said Oman would keep assisting the two sides as they move forward.

What Comes Next?

A follow-up round of talks is planned for next Saturday. While no major breakthrough has happened yet, the tone of both sides has improved. If the dialogue continues, there may be a path toward easing sanctions and reducing conflict.

Still, the situation remains delicate. Former U.S. President Donald Trump recently warned Iran it would face “great danger” without a new deal. This puts added pressure on negotiators.

The world will be watching closely.
