Astro Bot Wins Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024
Astro Bot claimed the prestigious Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2024, beating out other strong contenders such as Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Metaphor: ReFantazio, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Swen Vincke, the director of Baldur’s Gate 3, which won last year’s Game of the Year, presented this year’s award. In his speech, he mentioned that the game had “changed his life” and made a playful reference to last year’s speech interruption, saying, “If they tell you to wrap up, you can always come back for a three-minute chat.”
Nicolas Doucet, the president of Team Asobi, thanked the development team and PlayStation for their belief in Astro Bot. He also honored Nintendo, reminiscing about playing Super Mario Bros. as a child, and paid tribute to the 30-year legacy of PlayStation, which served as the foundation for Astro Bot’s gameplay.
In addition to winning Game of the Year, Astro Bot was one of the night’s biggest winners, taking home four awards, including Best Family Game and Best Game Direction. Other significant winners included Metaphor: ReFantazio, which won Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, and Best RPG, and Balatro, which took home the awards for Best Independent Game and Best Debut Indie Game.
